One of my favorite berries is strawberry. As a young girl I remember Grandma talking about picking fresh strawberries. For some reason I can’t remember where that was for the life of me. However I do remember our family, The Alsmans having our own Strawberry Fest family style out in my Grandparents carport.
Cherished memories. The images are still there in my mind. Grandma would make the crust and somehow we had the makings of a homemade feast. Cut up strawberries with sugar, it seems like we had milk or maybe ice cream. There are moments in time ingrained in my memory from my childhood that are priceless to me.
Sometime after we enjoyed some of those younger days Papaw Freddy learned about the Strawberry Fest in Terre Haute. I only remember being up there a couple of times and unfortunately I don’t have memories of Papaw in those specific times. Yet I know from Dad he was the one that started us going to this event.
One time I had gotten home from work or maybe I was at work. Anyway I had called them on one of my breaks and they ended up being at the Strawberry Fest without me. I wasn’t too thrilled knowing that, but I was hard at work as a cashier. I still like to remind everyone I was left out of the loop that day.

Today though, I was not. It was a beautiful day for it too. I learned something though. There is a Strawberry Horse; I did not know that. It is very cute and it was quite prominent today in the middle of the Fest area. The strawberry, “The Works” was very good, I just couldn’t eat the whole thing. They used to have options. One or two biscuits and various other options, but now it’s just one biscuit. That’s good but I couldn’t finish the other side of the biscuit and really I needed a good spoon instead of the spork to really get all the juices down.
