Photos In Time

Yesterday besides catching the movie on the USS Indianapolis I saw another one. This is one made from 1959. Carey Grant and Tony Curtis were the lead roles. Operation Petticoat.

I cannot count how many times I have seen this movie… too many to remember. There are times though when I think of the photos of my Grandpa Leo and Grandpa Freddy in uniform. This film was the Navy so it brought back images of Papaw in one of his few uniforms. Do you ever have Deja vu like this with photos of your loved ones?

Watching movies from the World War 2 Era to the Korean War sometimes takes my breath away. Unfortunately this last photo with the car has an unknown fellow with Papaw. It’s one of the photos from the Great Lakes. This is where Grandpa did his training and got the Measles which screwed up finishing the course of his training. He ended up having to switch Companies and in doing so got the bragging rights of being in the Company with the “Clean Sweep” at Graduation.

Goodness… this makes me miss him all the more. There’s another movie in particular with Gene Kelly that has him in these uniforms with Frank Sinatra that reminds me of Papaw as well. The movie is called Anchor’s Aweigh and another thing I remember from that movie is that the little boy from that movie ends up being Dean Stockwell which played Captain Binghampton on the new version of McHales Navy and was on a favorite show of mine JAG. Plus he was also on Air Force One another movie I have. Just the ones that are military related that I have personally admired over the years.

What can I say I am a product of my family. These are all shows that my Grandpa and Uncles fostered around us while having our Alsman Family time through those early years as a young family. Where we learned our heritage was something to be proud of not just our Godly heritage but our American Country Pride and reverence for Memorial Day special days like this for our exceptional home in the United States of America.
