D-Day
For the past three years I have gotten most of my news from online sources. I don’t put much stock in the name brand news stations Fox isn’t the best but it’s better than CNN, CBS, and all the alphabet soup of hack has been political pundits.
When I went to find anything about the D-Day Memorial Services the first Livestream that popped up was from AP, the Associated Press. It was too early though that there was just a photo of the beach at Normandy with an LCI I believe, Landing Craft Infantry ship. It wasn’t moving and didn’t change so I turned it off. I tried again later and Fox Live was on. I was surprised to find a Memorial in Washington D.C. President Franklin Roosevelt’s great-great grandson was a speaker. His family was honoring some servicemen from World War II.
Consequently, the French Memorial was also going on at the same time. This Livestream was showing the highlights from both events including at noon and were to show another event from NASA. At least Biden didn’t fall asleep. Did anyone notice him looking at his watch today? These men survived D-Day plus 80 years many of them didn’t think they would survive the day yet here they are in Normandy, France 80 years later. That is incredible. There are so few World War II Veterans left. What would our world, our country be like without these men and women who lived through that once in a lifetime era?
In little ways I have felt this urgency it is why I interviewed as many men on Grandpa’s list as I could. Now I have only one grandparent left of that generation. Only one man still lives from my interviews. He is now 100 years old. Pastor Hartman piloted a glider plane that flew supplies to Patton and the Armored Division. He’s such a special man. He doesn’t get out as much as he used to but I remember interviewing him and I don’t want to forget any of these Veteran’s stories. They are part of the fabric of what made this country great.
World War II was such a time in which a person’s character was made. Life was fragile and death was feared. Courage came when necessary though and lifted men and women up into amazing feats that led to the Allied Victory. Without this generation of world leaders including Winston Churchill and our American military; Communism would have taken over.
How can we be more like them?
