Thank You Veterans!
Earlier I watched an interview with Gary Sinise. The movie Forrest Gump is a rated R movie so my parents had the movie, but they kept it up out of our hands. This movie has always been an emotional, thought-provoking and poignant, American classic.
Tom Hanks was initially my favorite actor of the movie through the years, Lt. Dan’s character has grown on me. Maybe though, it’s his real life persona that has captured me. He is very humble and genuinely serves the Veterans of this great nation in a way I haven’t seen equaled.
Hanks has also given time and funds to the WW2 Museum in Louisiana. These efforts to remember our WW2 men and women should not be forgotten. The Series ‘Band of Brothers’ was created because in part of him. This series still makes me cry at the same places each time I watch them. I remember Major Winters died several years ago his birthday was the 21st, the day after mine. I got to know those men just like everyone who watched the series it was like a watching a journal come to life.
Some of the amazing details of the Gary Sinise Foundation are incredible. This weekend they will be handing over the 89th house to a Veteran who needs it. The 89th house is an amazing number to celebrate. Eighty-nine Veterans and their families have their own specially adapted smart homes because of this Foundation. They have also served over 1 million meals to troops. The Foundation has assisted over 1,253 Veterans to see the WW2 Museum.
Who knew this one film could bring about two of the best celebrities to bring out the best of the American spirit and patriotism of this Country. Especially through one of the darker times our troops faced in battle overseas in Vietnam. I know some stories that are difficult to digest and my Uncle lived through them. We owe our Vietnam Veterans so much more than what they returned to us for. I was humbled by my interview with him back in 2004. If you get a chance to talk to a Veteran listen to them.
Thank You Gary Sinise and Tom Hanks for your efforts towards remembering our Veterans. Thank you all for your service and God Bless You and your family!!
