The word authority trips me up a bit. Yes I do have a Bachelors degree in Social Science and yes I have spent my entire childhood in Church Sunday School as a student, assistant and teacher. However, to say resolutely I’m an authority on a subject; seems ludicrous. I study under the theory that I am everyday learning more about the subjects I love. Who knows what qualifies as an authority
My dad as the Sunday School Superintendent thought I knew enough to teach the kindergarten class. Of course I was under his authority in his house and he needed someone that he knew fully well could teach for a good while and he knew my schedule.
In my research of Revolutionary leaders and reading ‘1776’ by David McCullough, General Nathaniel Greene comes to mind. He learned many of his talents by first reading about them. He did indeed become an authority during his service time he proved his mettle time and time again. This 18th Century man became one of the greatest Generals of the Revolutionary Era. Learning comes in different ways observing on the job, through books, trial by error.
Yet I still feel I need to learn more about the Bible, music and history to be more able to be qualified to have mastered such a formal title.
