Writing Prompt:

What are you most proud of in your life?

Well first of all anytime I see the word proud I think of what scripture says. God does not like those who are boastful or prideful. The word pride has been twisted into pride months for groups who definitely boast in disgusting ways.

Yet there is a goodness of being proud. Proud Patriots and American Pride. In the 1770’s immigrants and those born here fell to their feet in prayer to God humbling themselves to have God be the omniscient force that would become the United States of America under a mighty God’s reign over the land eventually giving birth to this nation.

There are a lot of things in God’s eyes that are righteously proud and good to delight in. My family came from Germany in 1733 on a ship. The beginnings of my Bishop family tree started I’m a bit rusty on some of the details but I believe this is the Harbin branch which would lead to my Great Grandma Mary Harbin Bishop Townsley. I feel like I’m not spelling that right, but I’ll have to do some digging again in my records.

I’m proud to have had generations that literally go back to pre-Revolutionary days in this country. I am also proud to have had generations of God-fearing ancestors to read about from others who have done genealogy on our family.

God has given me and my family so much. We have a lot of history to be proud of within the different generations. I think of Great Grandpa Arla living to be 96 just a month after Papaw Leo died on December 12 1999. He got to live to the beginning of the 21st Century just briefly, but Papaw didn’t. One of life’s conundrums that maybe God will tell us one day.

I am proud and humbled to have made the decision that so many of my ancestors made before me to say yes to Christ and His salvation. It will be exciting to see the faces I don’t know, but names that I do know well in New Jerusalem some day.
