Family Project

Several years ago now, Dad had to make us a new swing for our frame. I don’t remember what happened besides it was cheaply made and broke. The new swing is much heavily and sturdily built. A work of art really.

Earlier this year Mom and I got to talking about Grandma and Grandpa’s old swing set. It’s just the frame now, but it’s not being used anymore which really hurts my heart. I remember all the times I sat on that swing with Grandma and Grandpa and now it’s not being used and until recently was out in the elements.

We decided after Grandma Betty’s “Fish Fry Birthday” we needed to make a change to our front porch. This is our new idea to make this swing usable once again. For weeks it was just talk, over the last day it’s become reality. Thinking about those memories doesn’t hurt my heart like it did even yesterday. Dad moved the frame from where it was behind my grandparents house to in front of our old shed. Then this morning something was in the air I felt like working on this project and the weather was perfect for it.

However, my arm is still sore. I am probably the one who painted the least that was until my brother had done enough. So I did go back and forth between both my hands making sure I didn’t over do it with my left. Today was fun and it was good to have a family project to work on. Once Dad retires he will have a swing to make for the frame.

Mom and Dad did have to have a couple of conversations about the color. So Dad will have his back porch swing red and our frame we worked on today is John Deere Tractor green. Mom originally wanted something even darker.

We are all happily tired now.
