The night before this busy Sunday one of our prayers came true. My brother got his daughter for an extended time, longer than expected. He was excited and so were we that he got his girl for a bit longer for his birthday present. Due to that she got to eat some of Papaw’s Fried Green Tomatoes, cooked from the Papaw that only likes Ketchup supposedly.
Having my niece around for her Dad’s birthday was exactly some of the good news we needed. I also remember… later on that evening, I had her Uncle James fry the hamburger for me so I could get in a bath that evening. I like to have the hamburger and the sausage already fried so I can have part of the process done before morning. It really helped me out and he likes to help cook.

It was after my bath and when my parents were watching a movie I heard an engine start. Apparently only I heard that sound… it returned after I was in bed. Then somehow in the early morning hours the car had disappeared again. I don’t remember hearing the call but I saw the Sullivan Hospital number on my phone at 3:35 am. It didn’t make sense and I knew it would be a busy morning so I went back to bed.
Mom woke me up about 5 minutes before 5 am. They also got calls from the hospital and they finally answered Dad’s phone after hearing it go ring more than once. Sunday morning was going to be the longest day for us…
