What is your all-time favorite album?
As a musician and lover of harmony this is a really difficult decision to make. As a girl growing up I heard gospel and hymn music more than anything especially in my mother’s womb while my mother played piano for most church services and also while my dad sang or lead the music which I’m not sure at that point if he was, like later in a few years.
Then a few years later I would fall in love with the rhythm of different genres. My uncles would listen to 80’s bands when we were in their cars and my mom listened to the Carpenters. Yet I also lived in the 90’s with groups and soloists that were also incredible.
However, the CD and the music that has been life changing for me came from Life-Action Ministries. A group I heard a Bethel Baptist, where my parents attend now. I looked into becoming a part of this group Life-Action, I believe I still have the mail I received from that, Grandpa Leo’s death in 1999, I think changed that for me.
Tomorrow though, in Grandpa and Grandma’s church I will be singing one of my favorite songs from that experience I watched them perform all of those years ago. Before Charlie Kirk’s assassination this song was already in my head but only by a day or two. His death sealed my confirmation to sing this song. It’s called ‘When God’s People Pray.’
Prayer is a controversial term for the Liberals. For Christians it’s a God-given tool for change and peace. This song has meant so much to me through the decades since I first heard that group as a young teenage girl. Music is powerful. Especially when it’s filled with a message from God meant to strike you in the heart to steer you into your calling.
