Lately I have felt like I am in a holding pattern. Simply waiting for things to happen one way or another. After my last two surgeries some accidents or incidents happened that have me a little paranoid about throwing myself back into a job.
However, there is a job position I am considering which will take a few months to get through some training. Again I am waiting for a couple of things to happen in order for that to happen. No matter what I want to do I have to again wait to have other strategic pieces in place before I can do anything. Even surgery. Although the ball is now rolling and it will hopefully be right before Thanksgiving.
Anyhow I wanted to change things up today. We had planned on making Spaghetti and Meatballs today, but we needed some ingredients so we had to go to the store. My brother was diagnosed with Autism a few years ago in his 30’s. Lately he has talked about wanting to learn more about cooking.
Earlier this year he surprised us. Me mostly, with our corn boiling and chili soup pot, completely filled with… stuff. Honestly I don’t know exactly what was in it… but there was a distinct, off smell. I had to physically leave the kitchen and living room area to go to my room because smelling it made me feel sick to my stomach. Yet he ate this stuff all week long until it was gone. Nobody else wanted to touch it. Dad thought it would make him sick, but it didn’t seem to phase him one way or another.
So he began talking about learning to cook. He has been watching and is very helpful when needed.

Especially lately when Mom’s finger has been in her brace. Today he helped me make the meatballs. Everyone likes their food a certain way, right! My Mom likes her meatballs small, but they do shrink while they are cooking so she likes them about a Silver dollar size so they end up being a good little size maybe even bite size. She doesn’t eat them in one bite though.

It was because my brother wanted to help I was able to change my routine today. Once I saw he was doing pretty well with the sizes I went ahead and started my first bike ride. As soon as I finished my ride Mom decided she wanted to start back on the bike herself. I took that as a good thing. We were both able to get our rides in soon after dinner. The question now is can I continue this routine. Already there’s a problem with tomorrow. I have a dentist appointment after dinner.
At least I know I can do this when I want a change of pace in my day.
