The Morning After

For some reason I don’t remember sleeping very well that first night. Not having my medicine was a big part of it, but I did do a lot of resting in the hospital waiting on the Anesthesiologist, and then waiting on my original bed in the pre-op area again. I spent no less than an hour and 45 minutes waiting and mostly resting but not a full sleep. So I wasn’t really as tired as I should have been, plus I wasn’t sick. The patch did its job for the first time ever I made it home without throwing up from the anesthesia. I was extremely happy with that patch.

My haziness is real and I know Mom had to help me get into some comfy clothes since I needed my medicine that morning. I know I was ready by the time Dad got that really sad text. A dear friend, we had met when we first began attending Fellowship Baptist Church had died the day before. It didn’t take long for me to realize that maybe even it happened while I was in surgery. Hearing that text felt like a ton of bricks hitting me. Knowing what we know about Michael coming back into his family’s life just the previous Summer that gutted me hard.

Miss Yvonne was going to my parents church at Bethel Baptist north of Linton. She was a sweet lady who also loved working with her hands doing all of the different crafts. Crouching, quilts, cross-stitch, you name it and she did it. I still remember her having her own store in her house we visited once a long time ago when Grandma Rosemary was still around. When there was a church meeting she would have her craft bag around so she could work on something while waiting for the meeting and during the meeting. I noticed she still did that at Bethel when I was attending those few years not so long ago.

This is the book we purchased from her. Unfortunately I can’t find the dolphin I finished. I do have an uncanny ability to hand finished pieces over as gifts very easily. I have thought about that dolphin a lot recently and perhaps even thinking about making another one or some of the other scenes from the book. I do love dolphins though!

I felt a kindred spirit with her because of her love for those crafts. My Aunt Mary also got me started young with her own daughters in doing cross-stitch especially. It’s the one thing that really stuck with me. Michael was also close to my age and we were in Sunday School class together and would talk about the piano. Still can’t believe that’s been 20 years since I had seen him until last year.

Surgery Day Plus One will continue with the next challenge of the day.
