The Day After… Surgery

This is the first time I didn’t have my pain medicine the day of surgery, but we got home late. So it was apparent we needed to get up early to get it. Early was not the word of the day however.

Instead we got to Sullivan and before all of this happened I was told my pain meds would not be able to be sent to our regular location at CVS that’s why we were heading to the Walmart pharmacy. I needed that medicine, my body was telling me that the Motrin was not enough. Mom didn’t come out with the medicine though. The script didn’t make it. My worst fear manifested.

After waiting a little bit she went back in… still nothing. I couldn’t wait any longer so I had to look at my discharge papers and find the Emergency numbers to call. I called it and got someone thankfully. Yet they had to wait on the on-call doctor to get me a new script made. In the interim I remembered through the pain and the nausea that I was trying not to let get the worse of me the fact that I had defaulted to answering CVS yesterday during the pre-op process. So… to make sure we covered our bases we went to CVS.

Thank goodness Mom came out with the medicine that was ready, my hunch was correct and I was finally able to take my painkillers. It just made for what should have been a simple morning more complicated. I then had to call that guy and say Thank you, but the medicine had been at another location I didn’t need that other script.

This was just the beginning of the day though a lot had happened and more was to come… more than I expected for the day after a major complicated surgery on my dominant hand.
