Saturday gave us a white blanket of snow here in Sullivan County. The amounts of precipitation are anywhere from a dusting to maybe a quarter of an inch to maybe an inch. Yet it was so pretty to look at while driving was another thing especially as the night wore on.
My parents had to deal with the slickness of the streets all the way up in Indianapolis and some friends also commented that Bloomington had at least a couple of accidents from the weather. They are also our neighbors kids. So with that backdrop the next morning was interestingly good. My mind had been made up I would use my Dad’s car for morning service and then my car for the evening church events. My lights are easy for me to remember and I wouldn’t need a flashlight to get into the right gear in his car.
Surprisingly I made it to the church really early, about 5 minutes I would say. Very unlike me. Actually I was so early everyone was asking me if Grandma was coming this morning. All I could say was I don’t know or well it is cold and a bit snowy she may have made a decision to stay at the apartment. Then before I realized it there she was with her drivers, but Reverend Adams had decided it was too cold for him so she was their only pickup that morning. Fortunately Grandma has always been there she doesn’t usually miss unless something major is wrong.
When we visited Grandma later at her apartment, my niece promptly pointed out she and her Daddy beat us there. What she didn’t know was that I had to get something started for the pitch-in supper later on. This was my first Advent Dinner. Then we had a simple Advent Service with choir practice afterwards. With an extra practice for solos.
The whole day ended up being pretty special for the first day of December.
