Jewells of Thought

Two Saturdays ago Mom and I went to a baby shower. It was for a cousin and the paternal grandmother of this baby is my Dad’s first cousin. This was such a beautiful day and a wonderful celebration for these two families to welcome this baby before the birth.

During this couple of hours I noticed this one man. Somehow I heard he was the mother’s grandpa. I’m related to the father’s side of the family. There was something about this man though. He was quite patriotic showing off his red Trump hat sitting in his chair.

My Mom and I left right as they just began to open presents. It had already been a couple of hours and for some reason I didn’t feel good. I got over that feeling eventually, but as we took off from that room going out of the church and we noticed him at the door. We stood talking to him for about 5 minutes.

He spoke about riding bikes with his granddaughter, the mommy to be we were just celebrating. He was so proud of her and it shone on his face. Somehow he was talking about how close they were and how he told her. He also mentioned riding those bikes at the cemetery which reminded me of Grandpa Freddy. Their relationship brought mine to mind with Grandpa it was hard to not listen to him and not get a little emotional. It was really sweet getting those few minutes with him as we left the church.

Tonight Mom was talking to Dad’s cousin and she told us he just died. That conversation was just about two weeks ago. It was the only time we met that man, but those moments were special listening to him. I understand that special relationship between a Grandpa and a granddaughter… it’s just really special.

This man was sick, but he held on to see this baby shower. Tonight she said he wanted really badly to be there for his granddaughter. This also means he must have voted for Trump and lived long enough to see his candidate win last week. He’s not the only one with this type of story. People who should have been gone days or weeks before lived long enough to vote and in some cases see Trump win. I have read a couple of different articles about some different cases including the founder of the Home Depot who died on election day.

Isn’t God amazing how He works in the details and timing!
