Nature & Creative Juices

A little while ago while I was cooking some cabbage and corn beef I had to take a break. Working on the stove with all of that heat and 2 to 3 people coming and going while Mom was helping me cook was hot. So I asked her if she would watch the cast iron skillet for a few minutes.

Goodness… the brisk air was exactly what I needed after being in that kitchen for so long. We both get this way needing air. If she’s said it once she’s said it a million times that we need a fan on us in the kitchen. The funny thing is we do have one, but if we turn it higher the dust will go everywhere and I will eventually begin to sneeze.

Anyway stepping out into the carport out into the driveway it began to increasingly warm up with each step. Still it felt wonderful. I soaked it up for several long minutes not wanting to go back in but knowing I needed to. It was during those long minutes though that I realized what I have been missing without our walks. The fresh crisp air was a way to revitalize my creative juices to stir up the projects in my mind and to get me ready to pursue them with vigor. The last few days in particular have been more difficult. I do feel the targeted benefit from the exercises, but losing the outside first thing in the morning has been hardest. Eventually with Winter setting in, our routine was going to change, and most likely to early afternoon walks. Yet there is something to that fresh air and early morning atmosphere the day is just beginning and it just feels right to begin it with the beauty of God’s nature surrounding me.

Maybe a jump start is 5 minutes instead of what it used to be 40 minutes. That is until I talk with my podiatrist. Right now anything that wakes both of us up and allows us to feel good about starting our day sounds good. Just to get outside and take in that amazing crisp feeling of morning would help me immensely.

Have you found yourself thrown into a new schedule that leaves you feeling incomplete? Or uninspired to do your work or daily chores at home? What gives you your kick start?
