Decisions for Well-Being

Friday was another difficult day for me exercise wise. For nearly a month my foot has been reacting since the hurricane before Helene came to shore. I am far away from these hurricanes and yet that one hurricane brought a lot of rain to southern Indiana.

Rain gives me mixed emotions. There are times it doesn’t affect me very much and times when I ache all over my right ankle. This specific time something inside my ankle seems to have been unleashed. At one point I felt liquid in my ankle and I was inside the house not near water mind you. It was a surreal sense I still can’t understand unless bursitis happened all of a sudden or a rupture of a cavity full of some kind of fluid.

I still remember the day the pain was most obvious to me. It was the day we got these gorgeous pumpkins. That was a complete day of ongoing rain. It was like it wasn’t going to stop. So we left the pumpkins in the trunk until the following Saturday where I finally remembered we needed to get them out and show them off on our front porch.

Walking has been mostly painful ever since. Our 40 minute walking sessions first thing of the morning… well I had to make a decision Friday. No more walking at the cemetery until I see the podiatrist in just a couple more weeks. It’s frustrating though, I was able to walk 40 minutes with only one dose of Voltaren and that was enough. I didn’t have any problems. Now with two doses and Ibuprofen I barely made it to 40 minutes and had to stop somewhere between 20 and 25 minutes. I have only made it to 40 minutes less than 5 days since this freak pain began occuring.

So when God closes a door, temporary or permanent He opens a window or another door right! Mom and I have been doing some floor exercises the last couple of days. It’s not the same as being out in nature and smelling the fresh crisp air of the morning, but it’s exercise and it does feel good.

Have you had to change something you loved to do in order to save a limb? I have been told before that I wouldn’t be able to walk for exercise, but somehow I found a way to do so… even though it took a lot of time and healing.
