Last week we found out about a death. One of my Mom’s brothers told us once he found out about it. It wasn’t a surprise and yet it is still bittersweet. Both sides of my family know him and his very large family.
There are so many times nestled in my memory seeing him and his second wife at Hardee’s. When we were still farming, Grandma and I think Uncle Mike was probably still alive at that point, we ran into them more times than I can count. We had some fond memories we created at that fast food joint of ours.

Now I had every intention of being at the funeral home with my parents today. Instead my younger brother was there with them without me. Our 40 minute walk was accomplished this morning, but something changed. After I ate my breakfast and took my pills, I can’t explain what happened except extreme exhaustion.
Disappointment is a mild word to use for how I felt once I realized I slept through the visitation. I only got up 5 minutes before my parents and brother returned from visiting our dear friends during their time of grieving.
While I was deep in research for anything to do about my family a couple of years ago I found one specific article in this online database. The heading was “Pleasantville Schools”, but at the very end of the article it mentioned a little group called “Patrol Boys.” George Clark was mentioned along with my Great-Uncle Bobby Lester, who is my Grandma Betty’s twin brother and also the other side of the family with Grandpa Leo’s brother, Norman Bishop. I thought that was so cool I printed it off and added it to my own database of articles that mentioned my family before and during the World War II years. This article came out from the Linton Daily Citizen on April 11, 1939.
Mom is planning on visiting Linda soon. She didn’t have a way to give Linda her phone number this morning. So we may be visiting them real soon with a possible zucchini loaf or maybe even chocolate zucchini loaf in hand.
