In the past two weeks I have been to Indy twice. Earlier in the summer though we went to the Zoo, but I do not remember seeing the skyline like this. In all the years I have been to Indianapolis as a child visiting the various hospitals and even when we said goodbye to Uncle Mike nearly 11 years ago. I simply don’t remember seeing the American Flag held in such esteem among the corporate buildings.

I began to notice the flags on the way up to the Sate Fair, but didn’t think I could get any photos. These photos were on the way home. There is a flag on the right photo, but it’s hard to see it’s literally on the other side where both the vertical and the horizontal pieces meet really high up there.
The last couple of times I have seen this display in my capital city has been a thrill. We may be a so-called ‘Red State’, but that is a mere moniker compared to Texas and Florida right now and what they as Republican states have been able to pass legislation for recently. Yet our ban on abortion is firm enough that Ohio went as far left as they could to make us look too conservative if there is such an idea. Life is and will always be precious even if people turn out to be dictators like Biden, Harris, and Walz. God didn’t say He loves His creation any less than He always has He did give us ‘Free Will’ to make our own decisions. The question is how much information do we truly have before we make our decision!
The word pious still touches my heart when I think about our Founding Fathers and Mothers on this very land fighting against Britain. These men and women were persecuted from Europe including Britian and Ireland. They wanted a new chance to live their life without a government breathing down their necks about their religion the only deity they served above their earthly government. They came here and put their hearts and souls into what this new land and life could be! They prayed with their knees on the ground pouring their hearts into each prayer and they were heard because they came to God in this pious way.
How incredible is that to know God heard your words. The Delaware crossing was a big sense of God’s hands on the situation it must have been a surreal experience for Washington and those who lived it to see the heavy fog. Our Army was not that of the British except for those who had previously been in the British Army including Washington there were several, but most of this rag tag bunch were young and old men ready to fight to the death. This was their land that they put their heart and soul into and this was it for them and they fought with everything they had. It’s that magic concoction that Teddy Roosevelt had when he fought in the Spanish American War, the Civil War, The Great War and even World War II. Americans have this rebel, fighting spirit about them that has always kept our military well endowed in fighting men until recently, that is of course.
The flag is special to us though “The Patriot’ with Mel Gibson has a special hold on me. There are multiple scenes where his son was working on a battered American flag, then in the last big battle after his son was killed he held that flag proudly in battle. The orchestra is so perfect I cry pretty much on cue at the same exact places. It may be a bit hollywoodized, but the music perfectly fits this movie. John Williams was the Composer he worked on the Star Wars movies and Fiddler on the Roof. The man is extremely talented.
Yet none of this would have been possible none of it the skyline to the movie without the flag itself. There are matters still disputing that Betsy Ross was the maker of the flag, but an article from Harper’s Monthly from an account of her grandson said George Washington, Robert Morris and her first husbands uncle, visited her to perhaps ask her to design and make this American flag. Somehow scholars think this is a myth. However, she is still credited with making the first American Flag nonetheless.
What would our flag say to us if it was one continual American flag that lasted all of these 248 years? Would it be proud of what it has stood for? The Veterans it has covered would it be proud of their service to keep this Country free as long as it has been?
What comes to your mind when you see that American Flag? Just weeks ago Pro-Palestinians took one down to put up a Palestinian Flag up while the Israeli Prime Minister was here. I know that hurt so many of us Americans. If that had been that continual American flag would it have felt pride, shame or a demeaning of its very nature?
Maybe this is silly for talking about a flag having feelings, but I remember in the Bible where Christ said if the people didn’t cry out His name the very rocks would. God gave us this land and the ability to have this beautiful American Flag and nothing is impossible for God to do. The question is are there still enough Christian Americans in this Country left to fight harder than those on the Liberal side? We shall see come November 5
