Saluting A Hero

As I drove north up 41 into Terre Haute, during the first three stoplights, I began to notice the flags. Sometimes on a good windy day they are wonderful spreading their message far and wide. The message yesterday was that a former Sheriff of Terre Haute was being laid to rest. It was in his honor and memory and these flags were majestically loud and proud.

Somehow I remember during Trump’s presidency someone saying he loved big American flags and that he had the largest one I think right there at Mar-a-lago, I’m not certain where it was only that it was down there in Florida. So everytime I see a big beautiful flag I think of a president that truly loved and still does his country that he had the biggest flag possible made to show his love for the country he loves.

Living in the shadow of the big city of Terre Haute; I did not know Sheriff Plasse personally. Over the years though he has been on WTHI TV many a time. He seemed very photogenic for a police officer and was genuinely humble; those are my thoughts on how he appeared to be on television. The past week WTHI has kept his death in focus as well since the announcement came midweek. Being up in the big city and seeing the flags at half staff though, made it seem solemn and sobering of what had transpired with the procession and the funeral last night.

Plasse died of cancer. I think it had been mentioned on the news a while back, but his death was a jolt to the community all the same. I know he had been a big part of the Rob Pitts processional and funeral several years ago as well as several others in recent years. That one comes to mind so quickly, because Rob helped protect my niece and her sisters when they went to the school at Hymera.

Today the news still remarked about the funeral service. His story is so important to our Wabash Valley Community that keeping the conversation alive about what a courageous man he was is crucial to the future of this community. He helped shape the future of that Police Department for the better and was a role model for so many. This is why law and order candidates are so crucial in elections.

We need more of him and Corey Comperatore, a Retired Fire Chief who died the day Trump was targeted, to lead our Police and Fire Stations to keep us safe amid these DA’s and dark money groups trying to upend our civilization. These are men who had it together who loved their country and their communities. They worked for them and served with love, honor and complete devotion.
