The End of A Chapter

Today is the end of a very long closing process. My Dad made his trip to the garden a couple of times to get all of the goodies he could that needed to be picked today. Before they headed off to meet with the buyers and his sisters as well as Grandma to sign paperwork, they loaded up with all the current produce we could afford to give out including the recent green beans from this morning.

They left me at the house still cutting and getting the green beans ready to blanch and freeze. The time was somewhere around 2:30 pm. I finished nearly two humongous bowls and began to clean some dishes and somewhere in between I noticed Uncle Tony came in. It was around 4:30 that I had already called Mom 3 times and Dad twice and decided I was going to go with Uncle Tony for supper.

On our way into Dugger all of a sudden at the stop sign before we turned to go towards Sullivan I saw it. There was an accident, but all I saw was the big truck slammed into the bank by the train overpass. Instantly my cousin Kenny and Devona’s death came to mind and the fact I couldn’t reach my parents. That insane thought paralyzed me for a bit. Then I tried really hard to forget it as quickly as I could!

Thank goodness I could have cried I got a phone call from Dad. We had just gotten our salads and finally I could breathe a sigh of relief. Still he made it clear they weren’t near Dugger and the accident he didn’t say anything about the paperwork and meeting the buyers. I could breathe though and it was enough until I got home to hear the specifics.

When Dad called he said they had just literally walked out of the office they were in to sign the paperwork. They had not left once they arrived and it took every bit of the 2 hours due to various things that had to be done. Today was a big day for our family though. Letting go of this home, Grandma’s house since the middle of the 1960’s. Grandma mentioned last Sunday and even before that she wanted to invite the family to church. She got her opportunity to do so this afternoon. I do hope they take her up on that invite. It does sound like they are a young couple with a very young child.

The Bishop’s when they moved in were 8 strong. The 6 kids at varying ages; a big family, a bustling family. This family is literally just starting out.

May God Bless this house for them as it has for our Family through the decades.
