Grandma didn’t know about my solo before she got to church. It’s just how it happened not that I was keeping it a secret from her. I didn’t even know before Friday we would be ready for a performance this morning. So I knew it would be a good surprise for her.
Then my Mom really wanted me to have someone record the song for her. I wasn’t sure how that would work out. Anyhow at the same time my Dad wasn’t feeling the best this morning and Mom was a little worried about him. Yet after him telling her he was alright he said she should come with me to church.
She really really wanted to hear me sing this song this morning. So that was the first surprise of the day. Then when we got to church I saw Grandma was there before us a couple minutes earlier. Usually her car gets there at the same time or very close as to when I arrive. Mom drove Dad’s work car so that was most likely the difference. Anyway Grandma went inside and didn’t even see the other surprise before she went inside and sat down.
Mom and I saw Aunt Kathy and Jim first. Then we sat down before Grandma saw them enter the sanctuary. So it was kind of funny the little surprises at church. I even heard I brought a fan club with me from someone. Grandma was positively beaming though and I was happy I was a part of that look on her face.
The butterflies I usually have didn’t really arrive. I had maybe small itty bitty ones fluttering lightly. I felt God’s presence though and having a row of my family didn’t phase me ironically. Any other time it might have, but not this morning.
Isn’t it amazing what the power of prayer and using your God-given talents can give you? The applause once I finished the song threw me a bit. The congregation was small, but mighty you would have thought it was a full church. Talk about the right song at the right time it was just a very special moment. Both my Mom and Grandma were proud and couldn’t stop smiling.
Even the preacher once he stepped up to the pulpit simply said as he looked straight at me, “Thank You.” The emotion in that phrase hung in my heart. It was such an amazing moment for me.
