After watching the 2020 Republican Convention I was hooked. It was an amazing sight to observe even through the livestream at home. The Campaign’s slogan of reinvigorating our National Heritage hit me in all the right places. My Bachelors degree was Social Studies and history is a passion of mine. They way that last convention brought our American History back to life was inspirational.
So knowing the RNC was here I knew I wanted to watch it yet again. Saturday only deepened my need and desire to see Trump’s new vision after this life-altering experience. I was not disappointed this week at all. Kai’s wisdom after all came from that experience and that was me as an even younger teenager at age 14. Only I didn’t get in front of a Convention and make a speech. Instead my voice for my Grandpa was my writing and interviewing other Veterans. Her moment Wednesday night really tugged at me and I know I can’t be the only one her teared up during those few minutes. Watching her father beaming at this girl turning into a woman as well as a feisty Trump Family defender was a new light for Don Jr. too.
This Convention has been about my balm for my soul lately. I do what is needed for so many others and we have had to deal with some complex issues lately. I adapt to the situation, but this week time listening to this amazingly united Republican Party has been soothing. Honestly I was being a little rigid not wanting to leave the house so I wouldn’t miss anything. But on day 2 of the RNC I was afraid of being late so I decided I wasn’t going to go eat out with my niece. She wasn’t having that either I was given the ultimate puppy dog face. Do you know how hard it is having those big eyes stare you down? She won fortunately I still made it home without missing anything, thank goodness.
Wednesday night I didn’t have any troubles either. I was able to watch the whole thing. I did notice though that after the first night each night after kept getting longer and longer. Tuesday it lasted a until 11:15 ish. Lara Trump’s speech was the big final one of the night, the next one was JD Vance’s acceptance speech for the Vice Presidential nomination it went over again considerably. I did watch every last minute of it, but goodness I was tired and had a time getting up the next morning.
Yesterday however, was a much different story. We had a standing date to meet with Aunt Helen. What we didn’t know was when or where exactly it would take place. Finally we got confirmation that we were going to go to her house, but we weren’t going to be eating with her like originally planned. We ate before showing up at her house. My niece the day before had talked all day long about babysitting on Thursday, but the baby or the kids had arrived by the time we were taking off. So she went with us there is a pull that Aunt Helen has with Selena, maybe because she’s a lot like Grandma Rosie being that they were sisters!
By the time we were finally heading towards her house the kids had arrived, but we were still on our way to Aunt Helen. I was getting a little squeamish myself I was watching the time and I knew I was absolutely going to be late for the RNC start. I had to briefly be the adaptable girl I usually am and remind myself it is a Livestream I can watch it later. So that worked. Plus I knew we needed to spend as much time with Aunt Helen as possible right now. She needs us and we need her.
As soon as we got there Selena had already gotten a couple of texts or calls saying the kids were at the trailer, but there wasn’t much we could do about it. Parking is interesting and I really wish I had just pulled in on the other side, but there was still room in the driveway so I didn’t think too much about it. Yet as soon as we walked in it was like God made certain we stayed around for a good family session that night. I remember one of the girls came in not minutes later it seemed. She was going to cook for her Grandma and she had her beautiful dog with her.
When she began to cook I immediately began to think we should probably make this short and sweet so Kate could cook and they could eat. God had other plans. Again not long after she got there this guy pulled in behind our car. I thought oh no he better be moving pretty darn soon. I have a Convention to get to and Selena needed to get back. Those thoughts fell to the ground though. This friend of the family was making good on a promise from the funeral. You know how people say if you need anything just call. This is what Aunt Helen needed and he said I’ll do it. He came to work on cleaning the gutters for her.
Either we needed the time with Helen and Kate or they needed it with us or we just needed the time with Kate’s dog. I don’t know exactly what it was but it was worth it. That’s the most we have seen Kate I think she’s been in England recently and will be going back soon. Maybe it was simply Selena needed this time it’s hard to pinpoint God’s mercy and grace we just have to accept it. I was 2 hours late getting to the Livestream, but I got to watch what I missed this morning. I still need to finish Trump’s speech though in a bit.
My goodness Pastor Sewell is awesome. His speech or was it more of a sermon was such a blessing. Kid Rock was something, I’m not sure what that was but he is a fiercely proud American, and Hulk Hogan, that was also incredible to watch. There have been so many incredible politicians with triumphant speeches, yet it’s also the American men and women they have amplified with their uniquely true stories that are so compelling. Tucker was also amazingly well done last night. From what the Veteran journalists and politicians have been saying this Convention, the committee behind this, they truly outdid themselves.
Everything worked out I got to ad-lib and enjoy my time with my niece and still feel connected to the events of the Convention. Still the Democrats and the Liberals want to say Trump is a racist. How can you watch this and still think that oh and I almost forgot the Star Spangled Banner I just watched that this morning. I was literally in tears from her rendition. It was a powerful song with a powerful verse that was added.
I think our Founding Fathers would be thrilled at the weeks Republican National Convention and how many times our colors were respected and our Banner was respected. You won’t see any of what just transpired here at the Democratic National Convention, that’s for certain!
