Yesterday after the funeral we were hungry. As of Sunday morning our refrigerator decided to halfway die on us. Thank goodness for the extra fridge downstairs. We would not have survived the past few days without it and would have lost a lot of food in the process.
In order to cook though it has taken us at least 2 to 3 ups and downs to get everything we need to fix and serve a meal. It’s a real workout. After dealing with that Monday we needed a bit of a break so we decided on Asian Buffet for our late dinner.
Various memories popped up while we were eating Chinese. Like a week earlier when we had three little girls at China Wok. When we were nearly finished I got the fortune cookies as usual but the girls looked at me weird. Selena knew what I was doing, but her sisters didn’t. I happen to like eating the cookies when they are fresh and I think I ate more than normal that evening for certain. Selena’s little sister began to enjoy opening the cookies and reading the fortunes so much that Selena surprised me and got another handful of them. It really shocked me because the girls weren’t interested in anything but reading them only I was the one to eat them. Mom might have eaten a little bit but I ended up eating more than 3 I believe. All so her little sister could read the fortunes. There was a time when Selena had fun reading them aloud to us learning new words. Those moments with the girls were neat and fun.
On that night my fortune read that “Diligence and modesty can raise your social status.” So fast forward back to yesterday at the Linton buffet a man complimented both my Mom and I on looking nice. We of course said thank you to him, but that comment made me curious as to why he thought that was so necessary. The lady he was with was wearing jeans and I can’t remember if they were shorts or pants. Yet that comment kept marinating in my mind. Was it simply a nice comment to make or was there something behind it? Did he think we always dressed this way was it a dig in some way. Finally I had to give up thinking about it and just call it a simple compliment. I don’t know why I have to analyze everything, but I do know some people have a weird sense of humor. Hopefully he doesn’t. Immediately after he said that though I remembered the girls and Summer reading our fortunes and brought it up.
Then when we had the girls Selena got Mom’s chocolate pudding. The measure in their ideas of how much pudding to get is vastly different. Mom gets about a half cup worth my niece got her nearly 5 times more than that the week before.
Yesterday after we were finished eating the waiter gave us our fortune cookies. Here are mine and my parents fortunes. Mine caught me off guard again because it made sense. “Sell your idea- they are totally acceptable.” I am literally on the verge of setting up my Etsy Shop, now I don’t believe in fortune cookies but I do believe that God doesn’t allow anything in your life that He doesn’t already know. There are no coincidences. The top one was Dad’s and the middle one was Mom’s. They are just fun little pieces of paper that go with the delicious vanilla wafers except when they actually mirror reality.
