A Surreal 48 Hours

Sunday was such a blessing and much more slow paced than today was for certain. I got to revel in my expanded church family for the morning service with Grandma and the evening service at another church with family and friends who are also very much like family.

It was a soul-soothing day for me. One that I really needed. It was a special time in so many ways. Then by the end of the day, literally, Dad got a phone call. It was my niece; my brother had been able to get her last night since he had the day off to pick up his wife from the airport.

This meant we would see her Monday morning for a bit. For one of the very rare times she came and walked with Mom and me for a whole 25 minutes. She kept up pretty good for wearing flip-flops. Once her Daddy was through doing some brush-hogging they took off for the airport. We thought that was the last we would see of her for the day.

We were wrong. Fortunately. She wanted to spend more time with us after Papaw went to work and before she had to go back to Mommy’s. So we did get some extra time with her watching her only eat breadsticks and cheese. The way this girl inhales cheese, my goodness.

When Daddy came to take her back home Mom and I took a little trip to visit one of her classmates. She’s an awesome seamstress and we both had some questions as to how I should proceed with finishing one of my pillows. We had a really good talk about sewing in general and she even offered me an amazing gift that will be possible to be given in a few weeks.

Today has been a constant change of plans. Mom had an appointment this afternoon and it was canceled due to all of a sudden hearing that she was ineligible for her Medicaid. A long story and a very big twist to today’s events obviously.

It’s been quite a day and I am still digesting the day’s events. The fact that I have not had much time to simply sit down and right has been vexing for me. However, when my niece is around we don’t get as much time as we would like so we have to roll with the punches and take advantage of what we can like we did today. Right now though, I have a headache and I need to call it a night. Tomorrow will be another interesting afternoon. It will require me to drive my parents home. Only one of them will be under doctors orders to not drive home though.
