My contacts were still in the coffee cups at midnight so I am not referring to hours earlier. Instead it was midnight maybe or 1 am when I heard everyone in the room talk about the power being off. I couldn’t tell until I realized the air conditioner was not working.
This was a new experience for us being in a hotel without power. It’s really not much fun. All you can do is sleep. We kept hoping wishfully it would be on soon. My Mom and my brother both use C-Pap machines so that kind of ruined their sleep routine. Or I should really say it ruined James’s sleep Mom fell back to sleep pretty easily. He really needs the C-Pap more I think. I think I was the only one who really heard him walking back and forth in the little hallway we had for hours it was driving me batty. Why can’t he just sleep. I was half asleep so I forgot about their C-Pap’s. He was anxious and just needing an outlet to do whatever.
It just felt like an upside down morning. Finally we decided we needed breakfast. The question was could they still serve something? We got ready and went down to the lobby… yeah it was a bust. No hot breakfast and nothing good that didn’t require being warmed up or a refrigerator to keep cold. So we thought maybe McDonald’s down the road would be open. We got in the car and saw cars going in and out, but until we got there and parked and were walking to it realized they also didn’t have power. Great still no breakfast.
Nearly each time I don’t take my medicine with food I get queasy. So I really wanted some breakfast. I didn’t personally pack any snacks we had licorice. Someone forgot to pack the Cheez-It’s though. Too much licorice ended up being bad for me, but all I had literally.

We got them from Rural King the night before specifically for the trip. They are wonderful, Green Apple is my favorite, I think although it’s difficult to have a favorite!
It also came to my attention that we had other plastic cups in the bathroom that I had not seen previously. So as soon as I had woken up enough to see them hiding in the far corner of the bathroom I was able to throw these coffee cups out as you can see the water was absorbed into the cups. I was so happy to see the plastic cups and was able to pitch the coffee ones out. I still had enough solution left it would just be one more night so I wouldn’t worry about it any more than I already had the previous evening.
Finally not too long before noon the power came back on. I want to say between 10 and 11 am it was back. Then we were hungry. I had eaten quite a few little pieces of the licorice, but too much licorice I think gave me a stomach ache in itself, plus I didn’t have anything but water to take my medicine with. I usually have juice to take them with instead. Our individual routines were erupted in multiple ways, it did make for interesting conversations for the next couple of weeks though.
Honestly though I can’t remember being in a similar situation ever on vacation! We were going to be quite tired by bedtime, that’s for sure. Still… what we would eat would be memorable though!
