At lunchtime the news, while not surprising leapt from Jon Swaner’s mouth. I immediately looked at my phone to find out the specifics even as he spoke of them in the next few minutes. My family just went through Bloomington last Thursday and Saturday. Thursday was when I really caught up on the protest in the Ivy League schools… but was I naive to think Bloomington wouldn’t also catch the fever?
Bloomington has also been a liberal atmosphere to say the least. However, I have been to IU a couple of times for school. Plus I have family who have graduated with degrees from this college it has been well and widely received just as the Ivy League campuses.
Although I don’t believe this protest has gotten as wild as many others have yesterday 33 were arrested. Students and faculty are pressuring Indiana University to divest from Israel. Today is now the 2nd day of the protests and Bryce Greene who is the IU Divestment Coalition representative says their group will not leave the Dunn Meadow until the university meets their demands.
They are calling for boycotts of the graduation and are possibly going to not finish grading assignments or submit final grades. Ben Robinson, who was arrested yesterday spoke today at 10:30 am from across the street since he’s banned from being on campus. This was across from Bryan Hall.
Since the year 1969 Dunn Meadow and I wish I could say I know this campus well, but I really don’t. My cousins and others could probably mentally see a picture in their mind. Anyway they have allowed temporary structures without approval. IU made a policy change on Wednesday night though, did they have a premonition or inside knowledge? They changed their policy to allow only pre-approved tents no other structures. The same policy would not accept posters they would have to be removed.
Pamela Whitten, the IU president is allowing the protest to stay in the area, but that any and all tents would have to be dismantled. All of this information comes from WTIU indianapublicmedia.org.
They have quite an organization with all of these protesters! Also yesterday a “Jewish Voice for Peace – Indiana Middle Eastern Student Association of IUPUI” also had to make a mark on Hoosiers lives yesterday. This group hosted a rally and harassed the folks trying to get places. Another 14 people were arrested for blocking traffic right in the vicinity of the Governor’s Mansion in Indianapolis.
Then of course, I couldn’t not put this in once I realized who the former mayor used to be. The Secretary of Transportation, who has quite a reputation nowadays, had a protest in his city of South Bend also. Students risked suspension and expulsion for a demonstration that was absolutely not authorized by any authorities. There are not too many other details to this tidbit of news sadly.
Lastly, but not least is the fact that Purdue simply could not be left out of this if IU was in it. This was a presidential lecture with Mung Chiang. Chiang was interviewing Senator Todd Young. I don’t think I would have interrupted it I just wouldn’t have showed up to watch that interview. I did not vote for Young I will leave it at that. These are from the indystar.com today.
Last week when I watched these campus protesters it was on Fox only. Now as of this morning it’s on my local news because IU is no more than an hour away from me. The Governor’s Mansion is no more than 2 hours depending on local traffic. These protests are happening in the heartland. I remember not long ago I was just as furious as the IU students were that Amy Coney Barrett wouldn’t stick up for the students who didn’t want to take shots they didn’t need. It was very real to me last week, now it just feels too close for comfort even though I am not afraid for myself this needs to be handled and there is no one in the Oval Office that can handle this madness.
The Left always wants to say we MAGA people need to be deprogrammed, yet we also know when they say something they are projecting onto us. So I guess that is their cry for help that they need to be deprogrammed. Honestly though, I like the idea of needing to be educated in the first place better. They need to read some books starting with the Bible in my opinion. Plus some old history books not found on their phones. The old fashioned type that you dog-ear mark or put a physical bookmark in when you stop for a bit. I love reading that way. In fact I just finished a book this morning about a historical fiction about the First World War. Americans were called dough boys in that war, I have a couple of great uncles who served in that war this is what I love about my heritage the fact I can talk about generations I didn’t get to meet. Generations that loved this country and our family, but just as importantly their faith and salvation in Christ.
