Last year my Grandma moved out of her house that she had lived in since 1965. It was no simple or easy task to go through this house with thousands of memories and treasures within its walls. The fortunate silver lining about this experience is the fact Grandma is still alive and we can still ask her questions. It would be a much more difficult task without either Grandpa and Grandma at all with us.

Nearly six months after our estate sales last Fall we have officially given up on trying to sell the house ourselves. Dad has at least received 200 to 250 phone calls. His sisters affectionately thought he knew more about the questions they didn’t to answer questions. So the last few months have been mighty interesting. The conversations, questions and the people we have met have been intriguing to get to know a little bit. At the same time it’s been exhausting for Dad who is still working third shift on top of this side gig.
This has been personal though too. Our family wants this home to go to a good family to use as it had been used for decades for our family. The interest for the house is out there, but lately our potential buyers have just been in the surrounding territory. The calls have waned a bit though too so after some poignant conversations just my parents at first Dad made the decision to begin family conversations about using a realtor.
Just last week it was very interesting where Dad had made contact with one guy a prominent man in the community. Then mere hours later another young vibrant man called another Greene County man who grew up around here came on Dad’s cell and he almost didn’t answer him. Then we were being courted by two realtors for a week. To be honest though the first gentleman had already contacted Dad at least twice if not three times to be our realtor before Dad made this decision.
I’m really hoping and praying this will help Dad to not worry as much about all the little particulars. Everyone of the sisters have had their responsibilities in the sale and doing various tasks for Grandma and to ready the house for this sale over the past year. Not just including Dad and his sisters but me and my cousins too including our little entertainers with the great-grandchildren.
With our new realtor it will be interesting to see what happens next. He’s a young energetic man who has some more diverse tools in his resources including photos from a plane that will be neat to see and a customized video of the house and acreage.
