Deli-Style Food

A year ago when I was training for DaVita there was a restaurant behind our hotel I really wanted to try. My fellow trainee and I were in Illinois and it was the night before our last day there. We had made the deal to try that place for our supper.

While I took a little extra curricular time for myself and went to Hobby Lobby and got to see a little bit more of the city She got a phone call. It was the call she had essentially given up on when she took this job. They hadn’t forgotten about her though. When I arrived in our hotel room she was excited and nervous and was talking to her husband. She wanted that job it was her ‘dream job’.

Instantly, I realized what that meant for us both. She was heading home that night and I would be staying by myself. Something I was definitely not used to so far away from my home 3 hours away. For her it was less than 2 hours. So anyway, I congratulated her and before I knew it I was all alone; a very new and somewhat scary experience for me all of a sudden.

That restaurant was now out of the question. I was simply not prepared for doing this by myself. Thankfully my phone allowed me to talk to my parents quite a bit that night and Bryan kept me company through texting me and calming me down. I already had enough food with me I didn’t need to go out plus she gave me her food for work since she didn’t need it. So I was taken care of for the evening. Pure willpower and determination, not to forget prayer and God was on my side and I had a routine to keep and work the next day. It was quite the experience for me to show myself I could do it by myself after all even if it wasn’t my first choice.

By the end of the year I was able to try that restaurant out here in Indiana up in Terre Haute. It was McCallisters. I tried it then and then today for lunch. The food is delicious, I believe I had the Italian Sandwich last time. Today, though I had the New Yorker, corned beef and pastrami mustard and swiss cheese on rye was amazing. My taste buds were thrilled with my choices including the veggie chili, although I don’t know why I chose that except that there was plenty of meat on my sandwich so it evened out my food groups.

Funny how things eventually work out!
