Visiting Loved Ones

Over the last couple of months we have missed any opportunity to see our family. We have tried to check in on them throughout the months. These two are very special people to our family since we walked through the doors to Fellowship all those years ago.

Pastor Dean has always been so welcoming and accepting of our family into the church from the get go especially when some of our specific hobbies or talents shined through very early in our time in this church. Once it was known that not one, two but three pianists were in this family the pianists took off back to Terre Haute immediately.

At least that’s the way my 13 year old self remembers it. Technically both of my brothers also took piano lessons but they don’t necessarily perform like my Mom, Uncle and I did. Plus Dad was the song leader these talents and skills were used as soon as possible and it gave us our ministry to work in for the church. It wasn’t the only ministry, but the widest one for us all. Dean enjoyed the ability of having music be more than it had because of that and made his work as preacher a bit easier.

Marilyn, his wife played the organ with whoever played the piano that week. My mom and uncle took turns when necessary. Over the years Beth and Dr. Mike also played the organ at times music was able to flourish more so with the added musicians here and there.

So anyhow we had tried to visit with this Father and Daughter for the past couple of weeks or more but nothing had worked out. So on Monday I promised Mom Wednesday morning we’ll go visiting. Yet this morning I thought about it and thought we should call first. Calling was apparently a good idea. She wasn’t ready for visitors yet so we said okay we’ll come after dinner.

When we got there other people had also thought to surprise her; but didn’t call. We all laughed at it then, but I told he… well you gave me time to take my bath and clean up and smell better for you. Again we laughed and laughed. Sometimes when you think you’re going through a difficult time this is where you need to be because Diane will make you crack up and feel lighter for all the laughter you make up for in your life. It was a sweet time. Pastor Dean didn’t get to stay and talk very long today was his medicine day, but it was really for Diane so that we made sure we saw her before the surgery she is supposed to have soon.

Sometimes laughter is the best medicine and I think we needed it as well as she did.
