In the Old Testament we are given this book named Proverbs, no it is not named after ancient Chinese proverbs we have all heard about throughout; history this was before China was I believe. I could be wrong but who knows.
These proverbs are from Solomon one of the many sons of David, king of Israel. The man who would become king after his father while his father was still alive, but not long for his home with God. This book is the book I so often refer to when it comes to instruction as young men and women growing up and learning about life as a couple and work ethic good and evil fruit in one’s life and so forth.
Solomon was given understanding from the Lord and with it he wrote this book. I have read this book and seen the truth of these statements over and over again. I see it in my daily life in many ways. There are so many ways I see it in my family with those going to church and those who are not.
Lately I have wondered if Jezebel is the woman that charms a man into her life what is the biblical equivalent? Samson was a prophet with a lot of issues, but he is the only one that comes to mind. I don’t know if I haven’t thought long and hard enough yet to figure one out or not. The idea of a Jezebel though has been a scary one to linger on nearly as bad as the male equivalent and the hardship they both create in a family that loves their sons and daughters. That is why this instruction for one’s children is so paramount to their education early in life. It doesn’t take long for bad influences to take influence on a young brain not completely formed.
“To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion. A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despite wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 4-7
It takes a willing heart and ears to hear the words Solomon speaks in these verses to understand the importance. We are now just about out of February and the Valentines Day hoopla. I have reported a bit on the Jane Austen sensation and on the Hallmark frenzy of activity this month. That is all well for reading and having some fun, but being married is not all fun and games to get the man. Marriage wasn’t meant for instantaneous love during Eve and Adams lifetime as much as it is now. It was different from their first generation to our generations now.
Love needs to be about life together and putting the other person ahead of yourself. I have seen the word ‘silly’ girls enough to know they are referring to girls who think only of themselves and are ubiquitous to anything else around them. They see something sparkly and they go for it whether they are in love or not. It’s not a very good basis for a marriage. Solomon speaks to these situations when and why to stay away from those types of men and women.
Your heart and body belongs to God if you are saved. Don’t let someone tell you otherwise and don’t accept lies as truth. There is a way to know the truth from falsehood and it’s in the Bible. Proverbs is an excellent choice to read for instruction from a wise king.
