Earlier this month was the milestone that I once held firm on remembering with a subway sandwich. Grandpa Freddy made Chicken Teriyaki one of our favorite sandwiches and the ‘Sweet Onion Sauce’ a favored sauce. This year I didn’t continue that in memoriam of him until today.

All month long I have craved anything really from Subway I nearly got the Spicy Italian another of my favorites, but realized this was my chance to fulfill that longing to think of Papaw and how much he liked this sandwich. Unfortunately I forgot the onions, not because I don’t love them but because sometimes I’m afraid to smell like onions around others.
So you must be wondering why tonight? What was so special or what came together about tonight?
Another baby project. There are two projects left for me to work on and when I say two I mean two different babies meaning multiple at least two per baby. The exception is knowing one has an older sibling so there is a possible 3rd project for at least one of them. I have to admit I am having fun with this. My aunt even found me some perfect pieces to use recently.
The only thing I needed to do was get more supplies. I spend a lot of time at Terre Haute and don’t see anything different usually so we decided to go south to Vincennes. It was on my list to go to both Hobby Lobby and JoAnns but when I found what I needed at the first stop we didn’t go to the last stop. Fortunately we were very close to a Subway and it was calling my name.
When we got there the drive thru was packed. I don’t like going through the drive thru with Subway personally though and we went inside and would eventually eat inside as well. It took a little while to notice they weren’t at full staff. These poor ladies were working hard to fill all these orders but there were only 3 of them 2 for the front and 1 for the drive thru. My goodness everyone thought the same thing tonight Subway was popular.
When we finally got up to order it got even busier. I told her a 6 inch Italian Herb & Cheese bread and then I said, pepper jack and that she wouldn’t need to warm it up she had just had a problem with it but I don’t like my sandwiches toasted usually. With all the chaos I had to remind her of the cheese and then she before I knew it she had a foot-long sandwich with the chicken on it. For two seconds I thought about keeping my mouth shut and flying with it maybe giving it to my brother or something then I thought against it I don’t know why. Spending extra money when mom didn’t need to made me change my mind, but then she had to cut and discard the chicken and bread. So then I felt guilty about it and wished I had shut my mouth this time.
Anyway she did give me some extra ‘Sweet Onion Sauce’ which I love. Considering what the ladies had to go through to make our sandwiches and our wait it was well worth the few extra minutes tonight. Plus I had never been in that Subway before it was actually nice and roomy the sweet tea also hit the spot. The only thing that bothered me was feeling guilty, but secondly my uncle couldn’t remember what to get. We haven’t been eating at Subway very much and they changed how the menu looked and the names a bit he got confused. That was something I wondered about, but wasn’t sure how to confront.
Usually he loved to get the meatball sub with black olives I can still remember how he ordered it when he got their food for them in the fields. Yet that didn’t suit him tonight. He and I got the same thing Chicken Teriyaki I was a little surprised at that move.
Do you remember certain loved ones when you eat favorite foods?
