This isn’t exactly an altar, but from this vantage point it does look similar. An alter wasn’t needed until after Adam and Eve’s forceful move from their paradise. Everything they held dear in the garden of Eden was no longer theirs. They could no longer care for the animals as they had and God did not walk with them as He had. It must have been a traumatic experience from these first two human creations.
One sin had created a domino effect with a rippling effect through generations. Cain thought it was abhorrent to kill animals; innocent little lambs for their sin offerings even though it was demanded by God their creator. So if he thought it was that bad how did he think it would feel when his parents with God saw the very first sin offering of the first ram that gave both Adam and Eve their first clothes. They must have known that animal well. Yet Cain thought produce was enough to equate with his sin for a sacrifice to his maker.
Books are incredible starting with the Bible. The fact that God had prophets to record these accounts of these amazing times and yet left so many details a blank. However, human nature really remains the same right? Something Adam and Eve hadn’t known until they were outside of the garden and seemingly on their own. All babies are born with this sin nature now as a result and we have to make our own decisions on whether we will believe on God or not.
Cain was the firstborn and hopes were held high for this first baby and yet he couldn’t see past himself and see that he needed his Creator, God in his life for bountiful blessings and mercies. In one action he killed his younger God-fearing brother and vaulted himself into this ominous path of his way or the highway and no one could tell him otherwise.
When I think of books that have made an impression on me this book is now in a very top spot. I say that a lot though, God has given some authors very impressive talents and Ms. Smith is also on my list of authors. It is so hard to not see the first couple in a different perspective. The experiences in their long lives captured what history keeps revealing in the past 2000 plus years of generations of people and countries and life that is constantly changing and yet not changing.
I know these stories, but having an author who does so much research and is guided by God to do such an amazing highlight of an instrumental woman and man who created the inhabitants of the world has been eye-opening. I have this love for reading the Bible because my family showed me by example. Now as an adult I understand that authors will write their opinion sometimes into their manuscripts, but on the whole they want to tell the stories of these ancient Saints to a new generation that needs to hear these wonderful accounts of life during Bible times.
Sometimes the change before and after the garden of Eden is intriguing and hard to miss God’s handiwork in all of the details. He was with them in Genesis as He is still with us now. I can’t wait to meet Adam and Eve in heaven and get to see them the first people God created and made a couple.
