When I worked in Dialysis back in 2022 I didn’t really get a family vacation that year. When I worked at DaVita I was able to get a week off in September. That was before my surgery to take out the hardware in my arm though a lot changed. Then I got on at Fresenius and our week in September became October. That didn’t work well with my competency test at the beginning of that month. I couldn’t take time off that close to the test and was afraid to ask.
So I left it to this was my year to just be thankful I had a job. However, the closer we got to that time-frame some little blessings had crossed my path. While my parents and younger brother went to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for a week I worked. Somehow though I formed a plan within a week before they were to take off. I had some really good paychecks and some timing that was essential. My competency test was on a Tuesday. The week after my parents and brother returned.
They took off on a Sunday morning and I worked till Thursday afternoon. I was already packed to go I grabbed my Uncle and we headed west to Illinois for 3 days. We went to Mount Vernon a place I didn’t get to really get to know except for the local DaVita Clinic for the 2 days of training for 3 weeks I endured. So we spent 2 nights there because I really enjoyed the Drury Inn I stayed in while I was there for work.
Uncle Tony liked it too. Unfortunately it was the better location than the last night we had come Saturday night. So we took off and got to Mount Vernon Thursday night and it was Friday night when my parents arrived home. It was kind of neat. My niece got to talk to us via my iPad I had at that time and I was able to speak to my parents at the same time. This was the trip I needed to relax and both of us really needed to take for some fun. Plus after studying so much for this test I needed this reprieve. Apparently it worked I passed the test the following week with more than 90% passing grade.
Saturday Uncle Tony and I went back through the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. One of our last vacations with Grandma and Uncle Mike and my brother James. Ironically my employer Fresenius is to thank for those three amazing vacations. They planned out where Uncle Mike could have his treatments during each trip. It was such a blessing to have more than just a day trip due to his treatments every other day. We were so grateful for those trips.

This is by far one of my favorite Museums to visit. I often wonder though what would Abe or the other earlier Presidents think of our government today? They must be rolling over in their graves. Seriously though, Washington stepped away from the presidency so as to show he was not a dictator and that this office should never be seen as one being a dictator. The class and dignity that took for him to step away and yet look at Congress the ages and lengths of their time in these seats. No president is perfect they are human after all.
Today is President’s Day. Who is your favorite one? There are three movies I have that I have watched through the years. One of them I actually watched just recently: Air Force One, 1997, Harrison Ford, Dave 1993, Kevin Kline, and lastly, The American President, 1995, Michael Douglas. Do you have a favorite movie about life in the White House?
