This evening I went up with Mom to this house. Our dryer is not drying very well. So we are having to use Uncle Tony’s. It has been a while since I have been in the basement. There are such memories all through this house and in the basement.
Some of Grandma’s art is still in the bathroom, washer and dryer room and there’s a shower we used to use after we swam in the pond. It still looks like it did when my grandparents were still alive. It’s just only used now for the washer and dryer. I nearly felt like I was in a trance being in there again.
Not long after Papaw died I can’t even guess when it was now. We decided to paint the bathroom it was white. I remember having to get on top of the washer to get up to the highest point of the wall. It was fun and I did it but I remember having to be a bit of an acrobat to get to it.
There used to be a system where everyone put their dirty clothes in the green bathroom upstairs and it would go straight to the washer and dryer room for Grandma and she wouldn’t have to do all the moving back and forth. That was changed with the remodel. I am so grateful I have these memories to hold on to.
Have you have walked into a room that has childhood memories and you feel lost in memories when you revisit it if you can?
The love that emanated from this couple was amazing to see in action in our family through the years. They were always living their love for their family and friends. I still… I want to tell them both about the amazing things I’m doing and experiencing.
