It has been quite the weekend. Most of my Saturday was working on the other part of my special project. However, it seems like when it rains it pours and lately it is pouring down cats and dogs around here. We somehow still have stink bugs around here and bugs that we have sprayed and sprayed and sprayed that will not die.
It’s a problem that just will not go away. Then this week I almost hated to even mention what I saw on the floor next to the washer. Yet I had too. It had recently within the past 6 months at least been taken to get fixed for the very same reason water leaking under the washer. So Saturday morning our guys installed a new top loading washer. It will take a little getting used to after having a front loading washer for years.
Then if that was not simply enough something else had been slowly happening. Sometime between Friday and Saturday morning the water coming from the sink was already scalding enough it was boiling our hands before we could turn it to the cold. It didn’t take long before we realized something was off and then we had to make it crystal clear to my niece about which side to turn the water on before putting her hands underneath it. My hands were scalded at least twice. I didn’t want that to happen to her.
By the end of the day though the water wasn’t scalding hot. So apparently our water heater is very old about 25 years to be specific. I usually take my time to clean up on Saturdays with an epsom bath, maybe I shouldn’t have waited so long. I put my hand under the spout it wasn’t hot but it wasn’t ice I didn’t think. I thought it would warm up. I was gone a little too long from the spout. No more than 2 inches had filled the tub. When I got in it could have nearly been like an ice bath at best. It didn’t warm up any more than that and the sink water was the same. If I wanted a bath badly enough I would have to use what I had or forget about it. I may be vain, but I took as fast of a bath as I could. Obviously I couldn’t use the epsom salt in the cold water I knew I would probably pay for that in the morning.
I sure did too. My foot was already irritated even though I had a heating pad on that Saturday night to warm it up. Standing for the song service was difficult and I wasn’t even wearing high heels. Just the coldness had really seeped in and standing on that bad foot wasn’t good.
However, church and the Glenburn service was really high bright spots for me today. It was my first time after 6 years to actually walk into the Glenburn hallways. So many memories came to me this afternoon. Times of my butterflies being overactive before singing before the patients and memories of the patients who are now gone. I got to sit by one of the newer families with some young kids. It was a special time today one of the children even pointed out to me that my name was in the hymnal, referring to “Jewels” the song. It was sweet to have that interaction today.
The fun part of the Glenburn service for the patients though I dare say was when the preacher’s daughter had to sit on his lap while he was playing piano. Then she still wouldn’t let go of daddy when it was time to speak. Again the patients had ample laughter today which is also good for the soul. Yet I missed visiting with my Grandma and some cousins I don’t get to see as much anymore… still I am grateful I did not miss this afternoon service. There was a time when I pretty much couldn’t miss it because Dad was in charge and I could be told to sing or perform something and did quite a bit.
This is one area of church I wondered if it would ever come back. I am glad the churches are back in the Glenburn Nursing Home once again. They need this on Sundays something to look forward to and time to enjoy good music and gospel preaching.
Goodness hopefully our water will be working again tomorrow. We have had to go without water here at the house for most of the day. Since I came home from church this morning there was not so much as a surprise but a much bigger problem than cold water.
Do you feel like you can’t handle all the things happening in your life? Fortunately, God has given us some blessings among the chaos. Like a church with a bathroom really helped this evening.
Yet as I was getting ready for bed. I still can’t believe this happened it is a first for me. I had to wash my hands with either a baby wipe or antibacterial soap and wait for my hands to dry first before taking out my contacts, it’s just my bad luck I suppose. My left one came out fine the second one I felt it jump off my hand. Do you know where it went? I thought it was just on my rug, but I was wrong. It fell through my register down the vent to the bottom where I saw my folded up contact. I had to put on my glasses to see it and turn on my phone flashlight, but I saw it.
That is my cue for a new contact tomorrow morning. Wow so much in such a short little weekend. I think I have endured the right to get to bed and sleep the night away possibly as long into the morning as I can. We shall see how that works out.
