The Senators working on this bill waited until the last minute to share the text. Many Conservative Pundits have said this would happen. If it was this amazing bill they kept raving about why on earth did they have to work in secret and most of what was leaked out was true.
They want to allow 4999 people on a daily basis only if it gets to 5000 one more person will they shut it down. However, the Democrat Chris Murphy said the border would never shut down. He was assuring his side of the aisle about this fact of the bill.
The hashing and rehashing of this bill is really sad though. Americans want the border shutdown. Senator Lankford being a Republican and Senator Sinema being from a border state should understand this better but they don’t. Any bill that doesn’t shut the flow isn’t really helping at all. Which also goes back to the basics. Biden already has the tools to shut it down. Having the authority has not compelled him to take any action except to attack those trying to close the border.
What really takes the cake this week though is that CBP was supporting the bill. They are so overworked and at their end meet that they were willing to take this deliberately horrible bill. It wouldn’t staunch the flow enough to make a difference. It would tie the hands of the President and future Presidents and allow asylum for millions that have jumped the line over official immigrants doing the right things to become citizens. Another travesty.
It’s funny the Democrats didn’t believe there was a problem until the past few months. There was no crisis so they said then in this bill they wanted to compromise except where it mattered. They may have given up on the asylum in the bill, but the bill sets up the idea for it to happen in the future. Compromising America’s sovereignty is not right. The dichotomy has never been more in your face between Trump and Biden.
Whose idea of security are you in favor of today?
It was nice to see a good chunk of Republicans on the same page as the Speaker on the dead on arrival bill. Even the media couldn’t spin this bill as a blockbuster needed to pass. It’s amazing how events bring a conference closer together.
