One of our traditions for birthdays has become to go out to a favorite family restaurant. So this past weekend we went to an Award Winning Cafe in Illinois. It’s called West Union Cafe and not far maybe a 30 minute drive give or take a few minutes from home.
This particular sweet spot has been a fond eating place on Saturdays since my Dad has most weekends off. This is the home of some amazing fried chicken and catfish and don’t forget the pie. Although this past weekend we had cake and ice cream awaiting us for my birthday. Otherwise we would have been eating dessert there.

Honestly I was so looking forward to that chocolate cake, Mom ordered it half and half. Our family is 50/50 on chocolate and white cake. It’s kind of funny but we all eat the cake when I make marbled cake both not fully mixed together. Sometimes I have added some other flavors to the mix like Swiss Mix. I have fun with my cooking and baking. Yet for my birthday there is still nothing better than good old fashioned chocolate cake with purple colored buttercream frosting.
