My Mom’s younger brothers Tony and Mike have spoken about stories dealing with the iconic Indiana Theater. This theater was created in 1922 it is over a hundred years old. They are going to make a big change to the outside very soon.
The sign at the front of the theater is not the original one. Apparently the very first one was so horribly it didn’t stay very long. So this sign is more like the 3rd possible. Very soon it will be in the Historical Society Museum.
I honestly can’t remember being there if I was it would have been as a much younger child. Like I said though my uncles and my Mom have several stories about younger exploits in Terre Haute and the Indiana Theater. The theater has not been showing movies for many years now, but a new owner has taken over the reigns and has some decisions to make.
First though it sounds like, from an article back on December 29 published by “Inside Indiana Busines with Gerry Dick.” The online article was written by Alex Brown. The new owner is going to be working on a feasibility study with investors as well as those plumbers, roofers, and mechanical issues to see what there is to do in the building.
One of the most recent decisions made though was to change the sign. They are making a copy of the second sign that had up, is what I understand from the news this afternoon. It should be interesting to see what happens with this building and to see how the new old sign looks when it replaces the current one.
