How aware are you of the animals around you? Have you noticed any distinct mannerisms?
The first few chapters of Jill Eileen Smith’s book on Eve were amazing. This is totally next level living from the old got ya question people would go crazy over. If you were shipwrecked on an island who would you want with you, who would it be-type idea. Only in the garden of Eden the animals and Adam and Eve lived together in peace. There were no differences from humans and animals in that space as far as interaction.
In Genesis God gave Adam the job of naming each animal. What if this meant naming their species as well as giving them a specific name as God gave him Adam. Think about this for a minute. First of all I think this is very important there were no slithering reptiles. That was the curse for his part in the fruit incident with Adam and Eve to no longer be standing or however Lucifer presented himself. Secondly both Adam and Eve knew the animals and cared for them. Each animal knew this two-legged couple and came when they called on the animal by its name.
I think over the years we’ve had dogs, cats, fish and Emu’s. The Emu’s and the fish did not come when called specifically. Some of our dogs didn’t do that either at times. Kodie has her good and bad times as well. Out on the back porch I noticed a few times when our dog seemed to notice my mood and they came to sit by me on the swing.
God does the impossible. What would that have been like to be the care takers of nature and having a certain understanding with the animals? They had no need for anything during this short time of living in the garden of Eden.
Eve and Adam loved the animals they lived with and cared for on a daily basis. Can you imagine the pain and hurt they went through once they were ejected from Eden and forced to use the animals for sacrifices for their sins they hadn’t had before they ate of the forbidden fruit? The first ram and sheep that had to die to atone for their sins. Then the animals were on a different level from them onward. This couple who literally took rides on the back of tigers and lions now feared them. A concept we in our modern world know all too well, but to them felt like a punch to the gut.
Do you ever think about these ideas? I love how this book explores this beginning of human existence. Showing again how amazing God is to create the world as He did for His glory. However, sin marring His original intent paved the need for Christ’s atoning blood at the cross.
