The Woes of Adults Acting Like Children

I may need some chocolate tonight…

Plans are set. Tomorrow is my birthday. However as soon as my niece gets to talking to her friends everything goes out the door.

Due to someone making it very easy for her to have whoever she wants each weekend we have her she thinks it’s totally normal to have sleepovers every weekend. She knows over here at Grandma and Grandpa’s house that’s not going to fly.

So instead she goes over our heads to someone who really does not have authority on the subject. Fortunately I think the girl’s parents said not this time. I shouldn’t have to interject because she knows exactly what tomorrow is and that dinner is planned out for us. Yet I let her know that she shouldn’t be mad at the parents and reminded her of our plans.

How furious would you be having your niece plan over your birthday in front of you while calling her out for what she was doing at every turn? Yet she always said well you guys wouldn’t be doing this it would be us. Meaning she knew we couldn’t do anything when we don’t have jurisdiction over the trailer which is a different matter. It’s not technically theirs it belongs to the Alsman Trust, but that gets a little over her head.

I guess I will see tomorrow if I actually have my niece at my birthday dinner. Life as an aunt has never been smooth. You love them and hope they gain some of what you tried to teach them by example.
