What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

Several thoughts come to mind from the girl who remembers my Sunday School lessons as a child and as a teacher. One of my earliest thoughts comes from Ephesians 6:1-3. I remember being taught to obey and honor my parents that I may have a long life on the earth. Something children should be taught more of nowadays.

My next thought is Methuselah. The oldest man in the old Testament having lived for 969 years. Isn’t that a mesmerizing number. God gave him this distinct title no other human would have at any other time in the history of this world. Did he respect and obey his parents? Or was he meant for this title for other reasons… his knowledge perhaps? He is a man of notable mention and Moses gives us his somewhat brief mention early in Genesis 5 and is mentioned less than a handful more times in the rest of scripture.

Recently my Great Aunt celebrated a milestone birthday. She turned 100 and is the first in our family to do so. We have friends and a former Preacher who has now turned 100, but this is family and was a wonderful day for our family to celebrate last month.

As far as my living to a long life… only God is in control of that.
