Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past?-Writing Prompt

Do you spend more time thinking about the future or the past? Why?

Until I met Bryan I spent more time unbalanced. He has balanced my time more so thinking about a future with him. I have spent a large portion of my time searching and researching history. Now he also makes me want to spend time getting to know his family history. My future family history as well.

I have long been a student of this theory. In 1905 George Santayana, The Life of Reason. My favorite quote from him is this, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” My history teacher from high school seared this into my mind. Thank you Mr. Benson.

Even Carl Sagan said, “You have to know the past to understand the present.” For me knowing the Bible has helped me know history and the various human patterns this world has seen since God created the world. The fact is God is omniscient and omnipresent the past, present and future He has been and always will be.

The Bible gives us this outline of God’s will for His people. He wants us to know our past to use our knowledge for His will and furtherance of His gospel. Humans get dumber when we don’t take backward glances at history because of the various patterns that can happen. We flourish and are at our best when we listen to those elders that remember specific bouts of history and can give wise advice.
