Devotional Day #22

Devotional Time: To Defeat Sin

Sin is an issue every one of us has to deal with. Christ manifesting our sin for us on the cross is still a mind blowing thought. Angela brought out the night at Gethsemane with a new perspective to me. Christ sweated drops of blood that fell to the ground. Her thoughts on this make so much sense. Jesus could have been dealing with the weight of the burden of what was about to come upon Him. She asked this open-ended question what did He see as He prayed?

Did the sin of this world all come to His mind? All through time the various horrible and heinous acts humans inflict on each other and pure evil. What if this was also what constituted the drops of sweated blood? Christ did pray that this cup would be taken from Him if possible. Yet perhaps that was also His point of no return and needed that fortification for his mission.

That alone was worth the time of this lesson. He knew taking on such a task was monumental, but it was His task. I do love that song In Christ Alone it brought tears to my cheeks the first few times I really listened to the lyrics. Sometimes when I really look at the lyrics I have trouble singing for the lump in my throat or tears clogging my words.
