Devotion Time: John the Baptizer

The forerunner of Christ is how I have always heard him described as being. Today Ms. Hunt also characterizes him as a herald. What things that would happen to John would also happen to Christ himself.

John knew why he was here though. Some people don’t understand their purpose as fully as he did. He got reports from people watching Jesus baptize more than he did, but he assured them that was exactly his purpose to show people to Him, their promised Messiah. He knew his purpose was to back away as Christ’s followers grew that was intended.

Three years. John had a ministry for a short time, but it was meaningful. Christ also had a 3 year ministry. The herald experienced what Christ would also experience even death although they were different brutal acts of torture.

Another day through the book and another day closer to Christmas Day!
