The First Time I Held My Niece?-Writing Prompt

Daily writing prompt
Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.

Never will I forget my nieces birth! It was a Sunday night and all of us greats and grandparents aunts and uncles were excited for this little beautiful girl to appear. My Church at First Baptist was gearing up for Vacation Bible School I was a teacher or assistant teacher. Preparing for this VBS week I am certain the idea of having a little girl at some future VBS events popped into my head.

Due to the seriousness of the problems that incited the C-section Mommy and baby were kept for a few days. Selena wasn’t released until Thursday. Her heartbeat stopped for a bit and there was a bowel movement that doesn’t usually occur at that precise time. Therefore they both needed some observation. I don’t remember exactly when everyone got to hold her for the first time, but Dad I know did on Wednesday he had an errand in Terre Haute that morning. The rest of our side had to wait until the next day.

Like I said all week long I was in VBS with kids and showing the photos I had gotten from Sunday night in the NICU Unit she was so tiny and everyone at Church was praying for her that week. I still remember Monday night before the first night started being in the Sanctuary crying and praying and Kim a friend had found me and enveloped me in a big hug that I sorely needed.

Thursday night after VBS I came home to a sleepy little girl. My goodness I have thousands of photos of Sleeping Beautiful as you can see here. It was such a precious moment of first holding my niece. I don’t usually take good photos or at least I don’t always feel very photogenic, but she makes me look good here. I love this little face and still can’t believe she is on the verge of becoming a teenager. It’s because of her that I feel ready for when the time comes to give her some possible babysitting duties perhaps as a teenager if God provides.
