Unfortunately life is not done in a petri dish. I want to believe my fellow Hoosiers are good morally calibrated people, experience has taught us even the reddest state or conservative state is not immune to dumb decision making from lawmakers or even our Education department.
Recently before Thanksgiving a headline came out regarding an Indiana Catholic College associated with Notre Dame in the northern part of the state. I spent nearly 2 weeks at St. Mary of the Woods in Terre Haute and I worked alongside some Sisters in the Library during this short time. It was an intriguing experience for me. At this time in history it was strictly women students on Campus. Not very long after I took my leave did I hear men were able to take classes, but live on campus.
My Guidance Counselor found me a Musical Scholarship and I applied for it and was excited to receive it on Honor’s Night. It seemed like it was meant to be… until it wasn’t. God works in mysterious ways.
It has been 20 years since that happened I don’t remember everything as well as I used to. Only that Campus seemed surreal to me. Now this Campus up north has changed policy on what a woman is and was voted on back in June it only came into effect and was only announced on November 21st a day most of the faculty, staff and students were out for the break. How convenient.
Fortunately, I got a headline about this and watched a you-tube news-clip of the situation. Plus another headline from “The Federalist” showed up on my feed. “My Catholic All-Women’s Alma Mater Just Announced It Will Admit Men In Ladyface.” Emily McNally published this article since she knew the College first-hand well. Apparently in 1972 they flat out refused to merge into Notre Dame which would have been better than this no doubt.
The College was founded in 1844, this was not a problem for them at all. Now they have changed their policy for submitting applicants to say this, “whose sex is female or who consistently live and identify as women.” Yes this is perfectly clear they have caved to the wind of the powers that be and left all common sense behind.
Two things happened pretty fast according to McNally. First is a massive backlash to this erroneous decision by such a large group of students, parents and alumnae making their thoughts heard. The school quickly disabled the commenting and a petition that had received nearly 5,000 signatures or more vanished somewhat quietly. The College forsakeing the Catholic teachings from the Bible itself as well as the hallowed biological facts.
She and I have different experiences and yet we both understand seeing an institution once a guardrail for society now useless and phony as a male wearing a bra and high-heeled pumps. I do also want to complement her for diagnosing these males rightly with mental illnesses. This doesn’t just happen; something fueled their need to tear down women.
Schools caving in to this doesn’t help these men either. It may give them notoriety and their 5 minutes of fame, but it can’t be completely fulfilling.
Why are they so willing to look foolish and hurt women with this level of cruelty? Schools are cowering with fear from the men pretending to be girls when they have the moral premise on their side! It’s very disappointing to watch this happen anywhere, but especially here in Indiana.
