Over the past 24 to 48 hours a headline has been going around. I didn’t get any of the real specifics until last night. There was a name associated with this story a Deadspin Writer. Obviously this writer wanted to stir up some controversy.
This young boy was being called a racist simply because he loves this sport and was enthusiastic. The word racist has lost some of the sting over the last few years though. It’s very sad that they are now gunning for kids having fun and attempting to make them feel guilty.
What I do love about this unique story is the family of the little boy. The writer was inept and did very little research into the whole story. Honestly I had never heard of the Chumash Tribe of California. So this was interesting to learn. Plus how awesome is it that this little Chiefs fan has a Grandpa literally in Santa Ynez as a member of the Tribe board.
This kid is super cute and even wanted to put the paint on right before going on national television with his dad. It was very cute when he admitted that little bit.
Fortunately we no longer adopt the ‘Carlisle Method’ of erasing the Indian culture out of the Indian. This is just absolute stupidity and good luck on this writers part for actually targeting someone who had a tomahawk to stand on in his favor against him.
Honestly though, I had a class on Plains Indians everyone knew they had Indian in their family. I know both my Moms and Dads sides have talked about Cherokee. What do you know about your family?
