Christmastime Is Here
There are songs that stick in your memory. For some reason I had always thought of this song as a somewhat sad-sounding sound for Christmas. Of course it comes from the Peanuts cartoon.
Becky had a lot of titles at church. Not to mention owning the Dairy Queen with her husband in their town. She loved to sing, she and her husband were my Sunday School teachers at one point in time. She would direct the singing when it was needed; I think it was because of her and Amy that I allowed myself to also direct singing a few times on Sunday evenings or Wednesday nights.
She sang many songs, but this Christmas song has remained in my memory. I don’t remember if she sang this one more than once or just the one time. She was a character I can’t forget for many reasons, but also due to our love of being farmers. She absolutely loved fresh off the cob corn and my family was able to give her some of that from our corn patch. I remember how happy she was to get some sweet corn.
She went as far for one song during a Christmas Concert to wear a pair of pants with a patch on the rear. Yet it was hearing her sing Christmastime Is Here that now has a lasting impact on my mind. Because of her that song is immortal in my mind.
Do you have a song that you never really enjoyed personally but one performance made the song click in your mind?
