Over the past week we have had some unusual and funny conversations to say the least. Most of us feel like we have become Dr. Doolittle talking to her as much as we have lately. Although to be honest, some of us were ready going in that direction before that happened.
But Dad… was not! So watching him with Kodie has been quite amusing.
Lately we have been having a food problem. She doesn’t like anything we give her to eat and or she knows there are pills in her food. This has been quite frustrating when we fix something up and make sure it has her needed pills to staunch an infection and then she won’t touch it. Plus we then have this food she will not touch that has to be disposed of somehow.
My Uncle, Mom and brother ate at Bandanas and brought me some food back. She wouldn’t eat anything we gave her that day. As soon as they came in with that bag it was like a switch was turned on and she was all over it. I had ordered her the macaroni and cheese and I was going to give her a little bit more of what I had left.
She ate the mac-n-cheese like it was going out of style. Then she stared at me with a razor focus on my beef brisket.
I gave her a little chunk of it and usually she doesn’t eat bread I gave her one of my 2 garlic breads and she ate it down. I fully intended on eating the baked beans, I love their baked beans just add a little more Sweet and Smoky barbeque sauce to it and it’s amazing. When I didn’t give her any more meat, by the way they put some pork in the beans, she finally ate the beans. Once I ate my baked potato I put the skin in the beans and she ate most of the beans. I looked back at the bowl the skins and the juice of the beans were gone, but she didn’t finish all the actual beans.
So today I decided to try a different route. We ate spaghetti. I was a little afraid she might get the sauce on the floor, but really she hasn’t had any big messes with food on the floor. Plus we are quick about sweeping up and cleaning anything that may happen. I wasn’t sure what to think will she or won’t she! I put the stuff in her sauce then cut up the noodles and mixed it up and set it beside her.
Not long after walking away I heard her slurping the sauce… she tried it. Yes it was a hit. Then I mentioned to everyone else it’s dinnertime and Dad was asking her if she was eating. A couple bites was all that she did. Then once we started to pray over our dinner she moved from her bowl.
Finally it hit me… I missed the big ingredient.
Even before I finished putting my plate together I went and picked up her bowl and added the big ingredient I forgot. The hamburger… how did I forget, the one big ingredient. So I added more noodles and sauce stirred it up and put it right in front of her. Stepped away to finish plating my own plate and set down for a moment.
Within minutes I heard more slurping so I went and this was my surprise.

Okay I totally had a moment of wow this is like “The Lady & The Tramp” movie I watched as a kid. Dogs actually like spaghetti, but we didn’t have meatballs and I cut up the noodles. We used to watch this movie with Grandma Rosie; it brought back some fond memories.
