After Grandpa Freddy died we spent time going through the house little by little. I don’t know how long it took after his death or when we started really looking at what was around us. One day I started looking outside on the carport.
Wow… I wish we had been more observant about what had been outside. I found an old shoebox. I began looking through it and took it inside to the table to look at it further.
Not only did I find letters written to Grandma Mattie from her sisters I found the icing on the cake of letters. The Navy insignia with Papaw’s handwriting on it. A letter written to his mother while north at Great Lakes. He even had a photo with the letter. I had never heard Grandpa talk about sending letters home. This find was amazing and I was so blessed to have found it.
My one question is why did Grandpa leave it outside with the other letters in that box?
